Snow Goose, Jean-Paul Riopelle (1998)

Snow Goose, Jean-Paul Riopelle (1998)

Jean-Paul Riopelle always looked to nature for a large measure of inspiration. The snow goose first appeared in his art in the early 1980s, and his love and respect for the snow goose are intimately interwoven in the way he portrays this amazing traveller. The subtle play of gold and silver tones in Riopelle’s work shines with a luminescence and emotional texture that leave no one indifferent.

Working with Jean Paul-Riopelle has been a very positive experience for the Fondation de la faune du Québec. It has opened new horizons towards the effective use the Fondation de la faune’s art collection to raise public awareness of the need to enhance the value of Quebec's wildlife and its habitats.

The Snow Goose is Riopelle's first work of art to be used on a stamp, and this may give it further value in the future.
